American Osteopathic
College of Pathologists, Inc.
Membership
For an AOCP membership application please click here or see the AOCP contact information at the bottom of the page. There are seven different types of membership.
Active membership is for practicing pathologists who are graduates of osteopathic colleges of medicine (or a college of medicine acceptable to the AOA and the AOCP) and have completed a pathology residency acceptable to the AOA and the AOCP. Active members have voting priveleges and are able to be officers and hold committee appointments. Board certified members also have the designation Fellow.
Candidate members are generally residents currently in a pathology training program (approved by the AOA and the AOCP) who have already graduated from an osteopathic college (or a college of medicine acceptable to the AOA and AOCP). Candidate members may not vote or hold office, but may serve on committees. Candidate members advance to active membership without further application upon completion of training.
Associate members are physicians or health professionals not otherwise qualified for membership. Associate members cannot vote or hold office.
Life members are active members who have reached the age of 65 (or who are permanently disabled), are no longer in practice (retired), and have been a member in good standing for 15 preceding consecutive years. Life members have voice in the affairs of the College but cannot vote.
Junior members are those enrolled in a college of medicine or in an internship program approved by the AOA and the AOCP. Junior members cannot vote or hold office, and can advance to Candidate membership upon acceptance to a pathology residency training program acceptable to the AOA and the AOCP.
Affiliate members are medical technologists (MT), medical technicians (MLT), histotechnologists (HT), or cytotechnologists (CT). They cannot vote or hold office, but may serve on committees.
Retired members are those who are currently retired from practice. Retired members may vote, hold office, and serve on Committees. |
